The galaxy is a gallery

Our galaxy offers at least 100.000.000.000 stars, and that is a quite large pile of points randomly scattered all over galactic space. But, inside a big chaos there are also many small pockets of high local order.

the total number of stars is only one sum. Another is the sum of images if we added all possible views: looking from all points of view, in all directions. A third factor could be zooming in and out. This creates a potential gallery of trillions of possible views / images.

To find a specific view or image we 'only' need to sort the galaxy, which is not easily done but nevertheless perfectly possible. If you know how Mona Lisa looks like, you can find her again, out there somewhere. If you only knew where...

The pictures, I suggest, are not the traditional kind of star images. Old images only offer a dozen stars, or less. Our imagination has to add 99%. This new kind of images may offer thousands of stars, like a sparkling photo. Read more...

EON - Largest number

Some entities are small, but numerous. Some are incredibly high, but only rarely used. But both ends are necessary, and we need the full spectrum. Is it possible to touch the sky, while keeping your feet firmly grounded? At least one may attempt it, so here's my suggestion...

Gravity- Fall or Drift?

Size vs Space affects any Fall:
Larger objects fall faster, and
Smaller objects fall slower.
We all move in a medium.
Nothing falls in isolation.

100 words

The number of languages on Earth is falling. But the number of words is rising. In order to investigate this evolution, I suggest a linguistic experiment: the minimal dictionary. If you should choose one and only one word, for a dictionary with only 100 words, which one should it be..?

We can see you
on any street...

Recently Google Street View appeared even in smaller capitals like Copenhagen. But how much had been included? I decided to start somewhere in central city, and here everything was now 3D.

Then I followed the same route home through the map, as I would have done in real life. As I moved further away from the central areas, I kept wondering when I would encounter the flat map again; when would 3D shift back to 2D? In the end I turned around a corner, and then...

All immortals will be
struck by lightning

Maybe the title sounds like a weird quote from a classic drama, but actually it is a quite normal consequence of the weather. Thunder is not rare in Denmark, and each time thousands of lightnings are let loose. And yet only one person is hit annually. But, if you have infinitely much time, every possibility will one day be released. Beware of the rare...

Fiction

Woman turned into Oak

One day Sylvia discovered that a small leaf had sprouted from her left elbow. Next day she found another on her right arm, she suspected a change. Rest of the week she increasingly found herself in the garden, branching out in silence, panorama! Doing nothing at all, standing still, admiring the suns speeding arc, yet strangely yearning for rain to fall; I'm leaving, she thought. Sylvias friends asked, did she find all this difficult, she answered: No, not at all. Easy as one, two, tree...

The urban fugue

He turned in his dream, his sleep was disturbed and something moving around up his sleeve. He couldn´t recall it all, reminded by the half. He was listening to a friend of his, a philosophical blacksmith, in the dream such a title seemed quite natural. More...

The end of all the birds

A vulture pierced to pieces
by winds of prey...
A canarys decline is often feline...
A blackbird blacked out
at the dead of night...
Bats bleeding in the belfry...
Swarms of pigeons getting
lost in the big city...
An ostrich burying its
entire body in sand...
Sparrows wither in flight
in bleak winters light...

Dreams

Here and there

Normally sleep is disturbed by dreams only, but one night I was surprised by something more solid. I was shifting position, half asleep, when I suddenly realized that I was not alone...

Making order
Making sense

I am sitting in a room, watching TV. At least I'm trying to watch, but the screen displays only noise, chaotic dots. It's impossible to see the film I wanted. Impossible to see any thing at all. Then I suddenly realize...

The parallel world

Time is change. But all things do not change equally fast. An example: fashion is a perennial production, architecture last centuries. Every thing evolves at its own internal speed. Thus time moves on in a myriad of separate but interwoven roads. Sleeping one night in the 90'es, I had a parallel dream...

Fantastic voyage

A long and winded voyage from the late 90'ties. Fantastic because the dream incorporates all main fantastic genres: a fantasy intro shifting to horror, continues as sf, ends in anti-surrealism. More..?

The sky, the Sun
and the Ocean

Long ago I had a most unusual wet dream, but not in the usual sense: I lie on a raft or similar, no need to swim, I'm floating somewhere in the middle of an Ocean, no land in sight in any direction: The word for world is water. Only me and the ocean, I look at the sun, I see the sea, skies. I look around and I know, I know....

Matrix goes fo(u)rth

Some weeks ago I dreamt I was watching a film. Not on TV, but in the cinema. Since dreams are a kind of visual fantasies, dreaming of films is almost too convoluted. But perhaps it still made sense, since the film was Matrix. Not the first one, nor was it the second or third. Nope, the fourth matrix-film which to my knowledge hasn't been made yet. More..?
